Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

READERS, including one with a gossamer skin, have been giving me a stimulating amount of stick. I might have saved two of them the cost of a stamp if I had explained that I did return my car to the garage to have the rear self-adjusting brakes adjusted in accordance with the mechanic's recommendation. When I collected it a rather shame-faced receptionist said that the work had been unnecessary.

The car had then covered 8,000 miles but at about 2,000 miles severe misfiring occurred which the garage attributed to a faulty distributor. After a new one had been obtained with difficulty I drove away misfiring as madly as before. The fault was in a simple sparking-plug suppressor.

I am still not impressed by the mechanics' diplomas.
