Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

"NEWS from Lex Wilkinson" trumpeted a press notice issued in April. It told how Homeline delivered an unspecified number of hampers "containing top-quality, mouthwatering delicacies" from Norwich to an unknown number of destinations in the three weeks before Christmas.

As I read I recalled Oliver Goldsmith's lines: Where village statesmen talked with looks profound And news much older than their ale went round.

With my customary charity I assume that the release was referring to last Christmas and that the goodies travelled rather more quickly than the "news".

AUTHOR John Crawley used to be a Ford main dealer in the Sixties; these days he is a writer and publisher (Steam Wagons in Focus, John Crawley Ltd, Turvey, Bedford MK43 8DU; CM January 19) and he tells me he would like to acquire as many back issues of Commercial Motor as he can. He is researching another three books.
