I CAN find nothing particularly interesting among the commercial vehicles entered for the Sandwell Historic Vehicle Parade and Transport Show at Dartmouth Park, West Bromwich, on May 12. Admission is, however, free, and who am Ito look a gifthorse in the carburetter?
The excellent 32-page programme, which is also free, contains an intriguing snippet about the Sedan 2 ton van, which Was claimed to have a turning circle of only 23ft. It was about as manoeuvrable as a sedan chair which it somewhat resembled.
The coalscuttle bonnet concealed a 22hp flat-twin engine driving the front wheels.
At least one of these rarities was used by Coalite in 1910. It probably made more smoke than the fuel that it delivered but its design was clearly ahead of its time.
