B.U.T. three-axled trolleybus chassis are to be supplied to Johannesburg Transport Department. They will be similar to 60 sent there in 1948. Dimensions will be: length, 30 ft.; width, 8 ft. 21in.; wheelbase, 18 ft. 5 in. Brakes will be fed by a Westinghouse compressor and automatic chassis lubrication will he incorporated.

English Electric equipment will be installed. The traction motor develops. 135 h.p. at the one-hour rating. The vehicles will be of the Brecknall Willis type.

STRONG criticism of railway livestock transport services was voiced before the Scottish Deputy Licensing Authority last week when Mr. J. Craig, Trade Street, Stranraer, successfUlly applied to carry cattle from the Rhins of Galloway to all parts of Scotland.

Mr. J. Wallace, Kildrochet farmer. said that he would never use the railways again to send cattle to England.. Animals were not delivered in time, the cost was high and care was not taken of milk stock.

Mr. W. Wilson, Foreland Place farmer, said that a load of 80 pedigree animals took 50 hours to reach Darlington from Stranraer. They were in a jaded condition when they arrived.

A MOBILE LUBRICATION UNIT A TRANSPORTABLE servicing unit A-1 designed for the export market, is now available from Tecalemit, Ltd., Plymouth. By its use it is possible to provide an efficient lubrication service for transport and equipment working at isolated sites.

The unit is supplied ready for mounting on an open lorry or as a twowheeled trailer.

Power' for the servicing equipment, which includes a high-pressure greaser, three low-pressure oil dispensers, a penetrating oil sprayer and an air line, is supplied by a petrol engine.

COURTRAI-LEEDS REMOVAL BY VAN

A REM OVAL of a family's rTh. possessions from Courtrai, Belgium, to Leeds, has been done by Messrs. John Owen and Co., Bangor. The firm used a Thames petrol-engined 1,200-cu.ft. pantechnicon which crossed the Dover—Ostend ferry lashed to the deck of the ship. In Belgium a tax of about £3 had to be paid every day.

Mt. J. Eifion Owen, son of the principal of the firm, drove the vehicle and a passenger gave hand signals. These were usually interpreted as frienay waves.

Wheeled Paver Made by Blaw Knox

A WHEELED bituminous paver 11 finisher, which is claimed to possess features not found in any other type of machine, is being produced by Blaw Knox, Ltd., 90-94 Brompton Road, London, S.W.3. The use of wheels in place of crawler tracks makes for easier maintenance and steering is said to be smoother and more accurate.

When the machine, which is known as the PF-90, has to be moved from one site to another—assuming the distance is not far in excess of 15 miles—it can do so under its own power at a speed of 41 m.p.h. Its operating speed ranges from 4.5 ft. to 50 ft. per minute, and any width of pavement can be laid from 8 ft. to 13 ft. in .6-in. increments.

The power unit of the paver is a Perkins L4 oil engine governed to 56 h.h.p. at 1,800 r.p.m. It is mounted centrally in the paver-chassis, the drive being taken through an over-centre clutch to a differential gearbox. Final drive is by roller chain.

DESIGNED for use on oil-engined r vehicles, the Norway recirculatory heater produced by the Key-Leather Co., Ltd., 5 Urswick Road, London, E.9, is now available for Commer TS3, Thames 4D, Bedford S-type, Albion. Claymore . and Chieftain, A.E.C. Mercury, Leyland Cornet, B.M.C. 3-5Ion and 7-ton, Sentinel and Trojan models, also all types with Gardner 6LW engines. The Norway is also applicable to Commer QX, Thames ET7 and Bedford A-type vehicles. It costs £12 12s.

8,992 CONVICTIONS 8,992 CONVICTIONS

DURING the year ended September 30, 1955, 8,992 convictions were obtained by Licensing Authorities or by the police in co-operation with them under Part 1 of the 1933 Act, the Minister of Transport told Mr. Ernest Davies last week. During this period, 73 officers were, on average, employed upon enforcement work.
