DRIORITY was given by Commer Cars, Ltd., and Thomas Harrington, Ltd., to the construction of a new mobile telegraph vehicle for the G.P.O. so that it could be ready in time for the visiting Australian cricket team's matches in this country. The vehicle will transmit up-to-theminute news of match scores to Australia and is scheduled to follow the team on their tour.
The Avenger chassis has a TS3 engine and the vehicle is 27 ft. 6 in. long overall. 616 STOPS PER SHIFT
ON a normally busy route in Hull a bus driver had to stop 616 times during a shift and cross 168 zebra crossings. On the average he -made 3,080 gear changes.
This was stated by Mr. G. H. Pulfrey, general manager of Hull Transport Department, at the presentation of awards to bus drivers.
Ninety per cent, of the department's 361 motorbus and trolleybus drivers qualified for awards last year. It had been decided to follow the Road Operators' Safety Council competition.
