BAXTER has been appointed estate and rating surveyor, Scotland, of the British Transport Commission, who have established an estate and rating service for the whole of their undertaking in Scotland. MR. GEORGE CARDWELL has retired from the Tilling Group. He began his career with the Brush Electrical Engineering Co., Ltd., in 1901 and in 1907 became general manager of the Hartlepools Electric Tramways Co. He later became general manager of the Macclesfield branch of British Automobile Traction, Ltd., which was formed into the North Western Road Car Co.. Ltd. In May, 1930, he was appointed to the executive of Thomas Tilling, Ltd., and during his 17 years with Tillings he has been on the boards of more than 22 subsidiary and associated companies. I4e was appointed a member of the Road Transport Executive in 1948 and was later chairman of the Road Passenger Executive and recently of many state-owned bus companies.
