NFT WAS NAMED as Asda's 'Carrier of the Year' for the second year running at an awards ceremony in Leeds last week.

The temperature-controlled specialist, which is based in Derbyshire. was described by Ian Stansfield, Asda's distribution director, as "a carrier committed to world-class service" and a business "that understands and embraces what our business is truly about".

Stanslield added: "NFT works tirelessly in order to understand our requirements and deliver the level of service we look for."

He also singled out the business for its willingness to react to green initiatives.

Speaking at the event, Tom Starkey, NET MD for operations, said:"We did fantastically last year. We have improved on that this year.

"We are always looking to cut food miles in partnership with Asda. We work with the primary and secondary distribution teams to cut empty running."

The firm was also given the Primary Carrier of the 'Year' accolade.

Also picking up an award at the event was fresh produce carrier FreshLine. which won the 'Most Improved Carrier' award. MD Robin Hancox adds: "We are very pleased to win this award, and we are going to work even harder this year to make sure we win the main award in 2011."

Fresh Linc handles some 75,000 pallets for Asda each week. This was the second year that Asda has held these awards, which are designed to reward the efforts of its carriers over the past 12 months something the retailer sees as integral to the success of its own business.
