"Right from the outset, we have always traded overseas; in the early days, we were delivering transformers from here in Stafford to South Africa. In 1992 ALE branched out and opened its first office outside the UK, in the UAE city of Abu Dhabi. There's obviously a strong oil and gas environment in that part of the world so it made perfect sense to site permanent premises there," Harries explains. The Middle East operation is now a considerable one, with additional offices in Doha, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. "Abu Dhabi is a now a major hub, with its own subsidiaries and businesses." Globally, ALE now has offices on every continent, stretching from Brisbane, Australia, in the east, to Houston, Texas, US, in the west.
