Daf in Britain looked more secure this week, as a potential buyer emerged for part of the business. Automotive parts and accessory business Unipart is believed to have asked Leyland Daf's receiver for details on the parts warehouse at Chorley, Lancs.

Production has been running for more than a week at plants in Leyland, Birmingham and Glasgow, despite supply difficulties. The receiver issued a restraining order against a third party which it says was hindering a supplier from resuming deliveries.

One of the first casualties from the Leyland Daf receivership is spray paint firm Croston Coatings in Lancashire, which relied on the company for around 65% of its business. One of the former directors, Keith Gillgrass, is on the verge of clinching a buyout package for the firm.
