AN increase of 30 per cent in tread life and an improvement of up to 50 per cent in stopping distances on wet roads are claimed for the new Dunlop Highway '70 truck tyre. Pending the introduction of a range of eight sizes in the next six months, the tyre is available as a 7.50-20 (10and 12-ply) or an 8.25-20 (12-ply) cover.
The Highway 70 is of nylon cross-ply design with two-leveltread construction which moulds together a new tyre of hardwearing compound with an inner layer of resilient shock-absorbing rubber. This contributes to the cool running ofthe tyre under heavy loads. The multi-knife-cut tread pattern resists aquaplaning in addition to increasing the grip on normal road surfaces.
Proving ground tests have shown that the tyres enable a 10-ton lorry to stop in 125 ft. on a wet, smooth surface when travelling at 35 m.p.h.
