MR. EDWIN WF-ST has been reappointed chairman of Leeds Sub-area of the Road Haulage Association. The vice-chairman is MR. ALBERT CROWTHER and the honorary secretary MR. T. WILKINSON.
MR. J. 0. ROWLEY has returned to Southall to become general works manager of A.E.C., Ltd. After spending 24 years in various positions in the motor industry, he left A.E.C. in 1950 to join Guy Motors, Ltd.
MR. A. MORRISON is to retire in August from the post of chief officer (special duties) of the Ulster Transport
Authority. He has been responsible for the revision of the Authority's rates structure, a task involving unifying road and rail charges.
Ma. 1. P. L. THOMAS, First Lord of the Admiralty, and MR. D. F. VOSPER, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Education, will be present at the annual dinner of the Institute of the Motor Industry on March 31, at the -Dorchester Hotel. London, W.I.
MR. W. K. HAIGH, assistant engineer of Bury Transport Department, has been recommended by Sunderland Transport Committee for the post of deputy general manager of Sunderland Transport Department. He .was formerly with the Doncaster undertaking.
MR. 13. E. GOUGH has taken over the managership of the British manufacturers' section of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders in addition to his duties as overseas secretary. MR. W. T. Witunms, formerly head of the legal department, has been appointed secretary.
MR. J. H. Rict IARDSON, traffic manager of East Yorkshire Motor Services, Ltd., is to succeed MR. G. W. BAI I ENSBY as traffic manager of the Northern General Transport Co., Ltd. Mr. Battgnsby was recently made general Manager of the Yorkshire Woollen District Transport Co., Ltd.
MR. J. D. MUNDELLA, assistant engineer of the North Western Road Car Co., Ltd., has become assistant chief engineer of the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd. After serving his apprenticeship with Leyland Motors, Ltd., he was employed by B.M.M.O. as a junior engineer until the war. After army service, he worked until 1952 in Persia with the AngloIranian Oil Co., Ltd. MR. T. J. GOLDR1CK, of Trent Motor Traction Co., Ltd., has been appointed technical
assistant with B.M.M.O. He was a student at Leyland for two years before becoming assistant to the chief engineer of the Trent concern.

MR. S. F. MtTMAN has been appointed deputy chairman and managing director of Borg-Warner, Ltd.
MR. W. F. DOWNTON has become replacement sales representative for south-western England of Hepworth and Grandage, Ltd.
MR. R. ROWS. deputy general manager of Luton Transport Department, has been appointed to a similar position at Southend.
MR. R. W. Biaco has been succeeded by MR. E. L. TAYLOR as chairman of Sheffield United Tours, Ltd, Mr. Birch has resigned because of pressure of business. MR. A. F. R. CARLING has taken over the managing directorship from Mr. Taylor.
BRIG. F. W. S. GORDON-HALL, director of inspection of fighting vehicles, Ministry of Supply. has been appointed director-general of lighting vehicles with the temporary rank of major-general. MAJ.-GEN. H. R. B. Foam, V.C., the present director-general, has been appointed director, Royal Armoured Corps, War Office.
MR. a H. HUGHES, formerly a district manager in the Midland Division of British Road Services, has replaced MR. C. H. JENNENS as traffic manager and deputy manager of the division. Mr. Hughes was managing director of J. T. Elwell and Co., Ltd., a company nationalized in 1948. Mr. Jennens has resumed directorships of a number of concerns, including lennens Bros. Motors, Ltd.
MR. A. E. FLACK, assistant divisional superintendent (north-east division) of London Transport's Central Road Services, has been appointed divisional superintendent (north-west division). He joined the former London General Omnibus Co. in 1922, became a district superintendent in 1942 and was appointed assistant divisional superim tendent in 1948. In 1947 he was loaned to Gibraltar City Corporation to advise on public transport.
NO R.5 DECISIONS YET
NO decisions had been taken on Tuesday by the Road Haulage Disposal Board on tenders in list R.5. Preliminary results are expected to be announced next week.
PRESSURE AGAINST TAX
THE Federation of Yorkshire Trades Councils is being asked by Halifax Trades Council to press for the abolition of the tax on fuel used by public service vehicles. The Halifax organization is also protesting to the Minister of Fuel and Power against the rise in the cost of fuel, drawing his attention to the profits made by the oil industry.
