Jailed after death crash

A POLISH TRUCK DRIVER who crushed a woman to death when he drove over her sports car was jailed for six years last week.

Karol BienkowskiS Scania collided with the car on the A16 near Spalding, Lincolnshire. The Scania kept going for more than 40 metres along the road after the crash. The Polish driver, of Market Deeping, Lincolnshire, had admitted causing the death of Amanda Woodhouse, 27, a singer from Cleethorpes, by dangerous driving.

Bienkowski, who had been in the UK for just four months when the accident happened, said he had been hurrying at the time. He had been travelling between 10mph and 15mph faster than the 40mph speed limit, according to his tachograph.

Just three months earlier, Bienkowski had been involved in another collision, on the A17, when he fell asleep at the wheel. He was convicted of dangerous driving for that offence.

Lincoln Crown Court jailed him for a total of six years for the two offences and banned him from driving for 10 years.
