The latest hauliers to close their doors are Naylors Transport of Barnsley and Albert Dent (Hilgay) of Kings Lynn. Naylors is already adver tising the sale of its 13-strong Scania fleet and 17 fridge trailers along with the contents of its workshop, offices and stores.
Six weeks ago RJ Risby Transport of Ashford ceased hauling for the agricultural industry. It is selling its eight vehicles, citing high diesel prices and cabotage.
Dent has stopped operating and is auctioning its fleet of 40 ERFs and 90 triaxle trailers because the company cannot see a future in haulage.
"This is a well-run family company but...if you're going to reinvest capital you need a return," says company accountant Derek Sharman. The company carried food for manufacturers including Master Foods.
