SEALEY BOOSTS VAN SALES + Jon Sealey has moved from MAN Bristol to Rygor Commercials as a used vehicle salesman, and has already seen van sales take off in a major way. "There's a big demand for used Sprinters, and the old Tls still sell well too," he reports.
PILOT IN THE PALM + Used vehicle price guide CAP has introduced a hand-held computer which will soon hold data on truck residuals as well as features which permit fast part-exchange appraisal. Known as PalmPilot, it can also be used as an electronic notepad.
SUPER G DISTRIBUTORS + Now importing the Steyr Puch Super G 4x4 light commercial from Austria, Automotive Technik of Aldershot, Hants, is looking for four to five distributors to handle it. Super G is a commercial version of Mercedes-Benz's G-Wagen car, which Steyr Daimler Puch builds.
LEASE-BACK FUNDING 4. Truck dealers with freehold property on prominent main road sites will be able to sell it, then lease it back, thanks to a £100m fund set up by William Pears Group and Real London Properties. Property consultants King Sturge are acting as the fund's agents. Dealers will be able to plough the released cash back into their businesses, or use it to fund other acquisitions, says Real London senior executive, Alvin Rich.
WEST PENNINE MOVES 4. Scania distributor West Pennine Trucks is moving its Telford dealership to new premises in the Halesfield area of town.The 1.5-acre site will boast a three-bay workshop plus a parts department. "We'll be in by the end of the year," says managing director, Nigel Birkmyre.
Earlier this year West Pennine announced the opening of a £1.6m purpose-built sales and maintenance dealership at Manchester's Trafford Park. "The new depot has been built from the ground up, and is one of the most advanced commercial vehicle centres to be found anywhere in the country," says Birkmyre.
"Included are a seven bay workshop—two of the bays are equipped to Petroleum Regulations standards—a brake testing facility, and a tachograph calibration centre. We have completely outgrown our previous premises."
