interest the owners of 4x4 vehicres who use them to tow vehicles over 3.5 tonnes for hire and reward.
Recently, while transporting a car behind an Isuzu Trooper, I was stopped by Leicester police. When asked for my tachograph, I had to reply that the vehicle did not have one fitted as I was not aware it was required.
I was then escorted to a weighbridge where the vehicle was found to have a gross train weight of 4,850kg. Neither the vehicle nor the trailer were overloaded, but I have been cautioned and told I will be prosecuted for operating without a tachograph.
I have since made various enquiries to different organisations which have provided me with conflicting information. Can any other reader share information or experiences regarding 4x4s towing trailers and tachos?
