BRITISH TELECOM has awarded pany and Armfield Engineering draulic access platforms.
York's contract is worth £500,000 to supply 80 tandem axle trailers. They will be 38 tonne platform trailers and will be used throughout the UK, and are of a heavy duty design to take heavy point loads associated with carrying cable drums.
They are plated at 33.5 tonnes gross train weight and capable of operating at 38 tonnes gross combination weight. They will, however, operate at 32.5 tonnes gcw with reserve strength.
The full width steel crossmembers are close-spaced at 400mm centres. A hardwood 35mm floor, heavy duty Code of Practise headboard and detachable tailboard are also fitted to the trailers.
Lashing points are provided in the floor, with rope hooks on the head and tailboard in addition to those normally fitted to the crossmembers.
The trailers will be running on York-built E.S. suspension and 10,171kg capacity S cam braked axles. They will be fitted with Girling Skidcheck and EEC under run bumpers.
Armfield Engineering is manufacturing 17 hydraulic access platforms for British Telecom for the first time mounted onto Dodge RGO8 chassis. Each has a working height of 8.5m (28ft) and a carrying capacity of 180kg (400 lb). A prototype has been successfully tested and will be delivered in May.
Armfield has also built a teles copic unit mounted on a Bedford CF 350 van with a working height of 10m (33ft) and an outreach of 6.6m (22ft) equipped with a large carrying cage of 1,100mm x 600mm (3ft 7iria2ft) floor area offering a carrying capacity of 165kg (365 lb). The cage is insulated for 1,000 volts.
Movements are speed controllable and all operations can be carried out from the cage and are safety interlocked. The vehicle engine can also be stopped and started from this panel, ensuring maximum fuel saving on prolonged operations while limiting noise and smell.
