To maintain a smooth flow of tractor parts and 1 assemblies between their Basildon and Antwerp plants the Ford Motor Co. has bought 105 of these 16-ton Metropolitan-Cammell tandem-axle semi-trailers (left) based on Brockhouse running gear and built to TIR specification.
The alloy bodies have twin roller-track conveycirs, being designed for fork-lift pallet loading. Twin-line air-pressure and single-line vacuum braking systems are fitted to permit shunting with different tractive units. Twenty of these semi-trailers are carried between Harwich and Antwerp on each trip.
