Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Reference to the importation of German nuts and bolts for British rearmament was made at Lincoln, last week, when Grimsby Roadways, Ltd., applied to the East Midland Licensing Authority for additional tonnage for trunk services from London to Grimsby and Grimsby to Birmingham.

The application had become necessary because of the heavy imports of German nuts and bolts at Grimsby for British concerns engaged in rearmament work. Grimsby Roadways, Ltd., alone was carrying 250-300 tons of German nuts and bolts a month to.tleo makers in Birmingham.

The application was granted.

Records Must Not be Altered.

" Preserve," in relation to the filing of driver's records, means to keep them for the prescribed period in the form originally made out by employees, even if they be incorrect. This, in effect, is the decision of Liverpool Stipendiary Magistrate.

He laid down this ruling, last week, *hen he fined Wavertree Furnishing Co., Ltd., Wavertree Road, Liverpool. £74, with £17 17s. costs, On charges of failing to preserve records and permitting drivers to work for excessive hours, The secretary of the company declared that he had not altered the logs.

Karrier Municipal-sales Change.

Since August, 1934, when the Harrier concern was taken over by the Routes group, municipal business in London and the Home Counties area (including Kent) has been dealt with by Routes, Ltd., Devonshire House, Piccadilly, London, W.I. A change has now been made, and, as from the beginning of this month, sales of municipal vehicles in this area are being dealt with by the factory sales department, at Luton, under the control of Mr. H. Hattersley, sales manager.

Full service facilities are still available at the Harrier London depot, at Humber Road, Cricklewood, London, N.W.2.

Are Detachable Sides Part of Vehicle?

Are the detachable sides of a cattle float part of the vehicle? This question arose at a J.P. Court in Aberdeen, last week, when Leslie Catto, 49, High Street, New Deer, was charged with driving a float at over 20 m.p.h. The weight of the vehicle, with sides, was 2 tons 131 cwt.

Mr. J. Angus, for Catto, did not deny that the vehicle's speed was 27 m.p.h., but maintained that as its weight, without sides, was 2 tons 9 cwt., it was allowed to travel at 30 m.p.h. Mr. Angus quoted extensively from a decision given in the High Court of Justiciary. He pleaded that the sides of the float were merely a container and not part of the lorry, The float was not an alternative body, the sides being used merely to allow the vehicle to accommodate cattle.

The decision will be announced on June 9.
