Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LGV drivers who died in road traffic accidents rose slightly in 2012, despite the lowest figure for total road deaths in 86 years.

Statistics from the Department for Transport (DfT) show that 29 lorry drivers died last year, 4% more than in 2011. However, the total number of people killed in road accidents was 1,754 — 8% lower than in 2011 and the lowest since records began in 1926.

Serious injuries to LGV drivers were also up marginally, to 169, but there was a 6% fall, to 1,141, in slight injuries. There was a 3% fall in deaths of van and light goods vehicle drivers, with 33 recorded, but an 8% rise in serious injuries.

The overall reduction in fatalities was widely welcomed, but the Institute of Advanced Motorists said a 10% rise in cyclist deaths reflected a lack of investment in segregated facilities.
