• A Staffordshire-based haulier has shut down after 50 years in the industry blaming increasingly tight rates.
Nearly 30 drivers lost their jobs when container and bulk haulier CTS (Midlands) of Tarnwortli closed down last Friday (28 June).
The entire fleet of 30 tractors, two tippers, 35 trailers and plant and garage equipment was sold at auction on Saturday for more than fun; the sale
attracted hundreds of buyers.
At one stage CTS ran 50 vehicles on coal work. Drivers were told of the closure three months ago so they could find other jobs. says transport manager. Derrick Statham. "Business hasn't been too good recently," says. "A few years ago we tried to diversify and go into containers, but rates are very tough at the moment."
