Hill Hire boosts profits despite rental rate fall

• Truck rental group Hill Hire has recorded a 46% increase in turnover and profits up by a half to £3.5m for the year ended March 1996—despite complaining that truck rental rates are 10% down on 1995 levels.
The company, which recently sold its light commercial vehicle division Ember Rental and bought Euro Trailer Rental (ETR1 plans to concentrate on the truck and trailer market.
The purchase of ETR gives Hill Hire three depots in Manchester. Northampton and Glasgow, bringing its total network to five. The deal brings the fleet size up to 2,604 units— up 81% on last year's figure.
The firm has just opened a new site in Leighton Buzzard and has built a vehicle testing bay at its Bradford depot.
