• The facelifted Transit, first revealed in Commercial Motor nine months ago (20-26 September 1990), is likely to go on sale in October.
As reported, the new models will be equipped with a revised floorpan with single rear wheels on the 3.5-tonne LCY models to reduce wheelarch intrusion into the loadspace.
The new floor pressings will make way for Ford's latest generation of engines. These will include the 75kW (100hp) turbodiesel which Ford has been testing since last year, while the new Zeta range of engines seem the likely choice for petrol models. Two-stage injection could also make an appearance on the DI diesel engine.
Early reports suggest that the new models will look very much like the current range; panel changes are expected to be minimal. Under the skin other possible changes include the introduction of all-independent suspension on some models and improved specification and trim levels.
