Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Renault will launch a facelifted Extra in January 1992. The company's market research shows that as well as high body volumes, there is a requirement for greater payloads in the bigvolume CDV sector. Heading the Extra range will be a new model, badged 775, with a claimed 775kg payload including driver.

The current Extra will be retained and bulged 585, using the existing petrol and diesel engines. The 775 will be offered with the 1.4-litre 'Energy' petrol engine and 1.9-litre diesel used in the Renault Clio.

The new model has been a long time coming. Renault confirmed the heavy Extra's existence nearly two years ago (CM 3-9 August 1989), slotting between the current Extra and lightest Trafic.

The arrival of the Fiesta Courier seems to have persuaded Renault to offer the heavier Extra in the UK. Claimed payload for the Courier is 515kg

for both petrol and diesel mode 1 s , leaving the highvolume/high-payload market to Citroen and Renault, with the C15 765 and the new Extra. fi Renault is considering the Clio van for the UK market. The small CDV is currently available in France and Ireland. Renault's concern is that it might reduce sales of the lighter Extra if launched in the UK. If it were available here it would compete against the Peugeot 205, Ford Fiesta, Rover Metro and Vauxhall Novavan. Fiat is also scheduled to launch a van version of the Uno soon.
