Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Rates will be the key factor in persuading hauliers to use the Channel Tunnel, according to a new survey. Most operators think the Chunnel will cost the same or more than the ferries and only a minority believe it will cut overal journey times.

Distribution consultancy Davies & Robson questioned leading international hauliers who between them make 400,000 trips from Dover every year.

All but one said that price will be the key factor in influencing a decision to use the Chunnel; 56% opted for transit time and 67% for reliability.

Although nobody thinks using the Chunnel will take longer than the ferries, 67% say it will make little difference to journey times: 42% think shuttle prices will be cheaper than the ferries, and 33% more expensive — 64% say freight shuttle capacity will have an impact on their decision, and 75% say driver attitude will be a factor.
