A. McFarlin, 47, is to succeed W. E. Blatchford as managing director of Blatchfords Packers and Removers Ltd. on September 1. Since 1964 Mr. McFarlin has been director—transport, P. D. Wharfage and Transport Ltd., a Powell Duffryn company based at Shoreham. Sussex. with a fleet of 400 vehicles. He entered transport on the municipal bus side in 1938 in Uverpool, moving to Plymouth in 1956 to take over management of Plymouth Transport Co. Ltd. (now Drake Carriersl. In 1961 he returned to Merseyside to become traffic manager —Mersey Tunnel. Until Mr. McFarlin's arrival at Blatchfords C. H. Baulch will be in charge. Mr Biatchford, who has not been well for some time, is nevertheless prepared to continue in an advisory capacity. Christopher T. Dabell has been re-elected national chairman of the Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association. Mr. Dabell is chairman and managing director of South Notts Bus Co. Ltd. Leslie F. Bowen has been re-elected vice-chairman and Frank Broomfield treasurer. Mr. Bowen is managing director of L. F. Bowen Ltd., Birmingham, and Arnolds Coaches Ltd., Tamworth. Mr. Broomfield is secretary of Barton Transport Ltd. and a director and secretary of Hall Bros. (South Shields) Ltd.

Derek H. Joyce retired from Shell-Mex and BP Ltd. on Monday. During his 45 years of service with the Group Mr. Joyce held various transport appointments. His recent appointments were manager— supply and distribution, and manager—operations network planning. He has served on numerous committees representing trade and industry in the transport field and his service includes many years chairmanship of the transport committee of the Association of British Chambers of Commerce. He was also hon. treasurer of the TRTA (now the FTA). He is a vice-president of the loT. He has been chairman of the Transport Managers' Licence Committee since its inception in April 1967 and remains in that position.

Herbert Jack Maiden, 40. who has been retained by Nottingham City Transport since October 1968 when it took over West Bridgeford Urban Council passenger transport department where he was manager and engineer, has been appointed Sunderland Corporation Transport deputy manager and engineer.

J. H. Ewer, chairman of George Ewer and Co. Ltd.. will relinquish the chairmanship at the end of this month to the deputy chairman, his son, H. G. Ewer.

A, W. Turner of ERF Ltd., has been appointed to the board as engineering director following the retirement of Ernest Sherratt. Mr. Turner joined the company last year as chief engineer. E. D. Green, who joined as production director in 1967, has been appointed deputy managing director of ERF Ltd. with direct responsibility for production and service; he is also appointed to the board of ER F Engineering Ltd.
