• That it is extremely important that proposed amendments to the C and U Regulations giving the force of law to manufacturers' plates should not be introduced until some two or three months after the regulations extending plating and testing is the FTA's main comment on the MoT proposals to give manufacturers' plates the force of law.
Without this delay, says the association, operators of vehicles carrying light but bulky loads would not have time to have their vehicles repiated by the Ministry. As a result, the tyre equipment fitted to the vehicle may not adequately reflect a manufacturer's plated weight, which is higher than that required by the operator.
