Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

van) solely for the delivery of our own products. The dropside truck is used only occasionally for a special delivery. The same man drives both vehicles, therefore only one vehicle is on the road at any one time.

Could we have your views and comments on running both vehicles on a set of trade plates? Is this legally possible and if so, what would be the effect on road tax, insurance, etc?

A Trade licences are for use only on

untaxed vehicles operated by vehicle manufacturers, dealers. and repairers, in connection with their business as such and must not be used on vehicles carrying goods for delivery.

You would not be able to obtain trade plates to operate your vehicles for delivery work and they should be taxed and ficenced as goods vehicles in the normal manner.

It is unfortunate that you need to keep two vehicles when only one is in use at any time, and the only course of action we can suggest is that you endeavour to find one vehicle which would be used for both purposes, and so obviate the necessity for double tax and insurance.
