Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN express licence for a subsidized service connecting Loughborough with Stanford Hall Theatre, a three-mile journey, was granted to the Trent Motor Traction .Co., Ltd., by the East Midland Traffic Commissioners last week. The South Notts Bus Co., Ltd., who have held the licence for six years, opposed the application.

, Mr. W. Mayoss, for the Loughborough and District Theatre Association, said they wanted to economize and thought they could save money on the cost of transporting patrons to the theatre from Loughborough. South Notts had operated the service satisfactorily, but the Association still lost 140 on seven weekly performances.

Mr. A. C. G. Rothera, for Trent, claimed that they could do the work cheaper than South Notts as they had a garage at Loughborough which ruled out dead mileage. In a total run of 20 miles, South Notts had to cover 14i wasted miles.

Mr. R. Seely Whitby, for South Notts, said the fare of Is. had not risen for five years. He thought that if the Association increased it by 3d. they would reduce their transport losses to a negligible amount.
