The Waltham °aunty surveyor, in view of the reduction of road haulage prices, the high rates charged by the railway company for teamed macadam, the short age of railway trucks, and the great delay in transit, strongly recommends that improved facilities should be provided at the Spennymoor slag works for the leading arid despatch of materials by road. For this purpose he suggeststhe construction of a loading dock on the Works Road, and the provision of a seeand-hand standard gauge petroldriven locomotive, at an approxithate coat of £800, and four side-tipping 4-5ton standard gauge wagons, at an approximate cost of £85 each, for the purpose of hauling the materials from the works to the deck The locomotive would also be extremely useful for shunting purposes and would save the -labour of several men. .
