Recently the Chester Corporation decided to impose mileage charges in connection with a motorbus service along Canal Street and Garden Lane, contending that it had the power to impose such charges as a condition to licences to ply for hire.
Now the Ministry of Transport writes to the corporation that it cannot support the corporation's requirement, but pointing out that it is open for the corporation to apply for a grant towards the reconstruction or strengthening of the road.
