Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ough Few in Number, the Vehicles on View • are Very Interesting.

OWING to the S.M.M. and T. refusing to permit signatories of the Bond to exhibit petrol vehicles at the Royal Show, on this occasion the number of steam vehicles greatly exceeds the number of • . petrol .exhibits, 'bet, in spite of this, there are sever-al very, interesting petrol vehicles staged by 'non-signers of the Bond, and these . include types of machines designed to nieet the needs of the agriculturist as well as several built to carry passengers.

Thornyeroft's Horsebox.

A well-built arid well-thought-out motor horsebox on a 4-ton 'J-type Thornycroft c.hassis is shown on Stand No. 269 by. Dennis Bros., the coachbuilders, .of North Kensington. • The box has folding double doors at the rear, and a ramp which is drawn up into position behind the body, or released as required, by means of a handoperated winch. At the back of the driver's seat is a compartment providing sleeping accommodation for two men, whilst next to this is a forage store. The body is divided by a central partition, and the horses are protected by thick mats.

Garner's Busvan.

Three vehicles comprise the exhibit staged by Henry Garner, Ltd., on Stand No. 256. Perhaps the most interesting of these is the Busvan, which was shown for the first time at the Royal Show last year. Since then it has met with considerable approbation. It has undergone no radical changes in design, but the equipment now includes luggage rail, folding ladder, electric light, inside and destination boards en each side. The headroom has been increased by 4' ins,, and the entrance for the -passengers at the front has been widened, whilst the partitions between the driver's seat and the main portion of the vehicle are staggered to facilitate entrance and exit. The next vehicle of partibular. interest on this stand is a general-purpose farmer's lorry, the sides of which are provided with removable crate uppers, making the vehicle suitable for carrying market gardener's produce and small live stock.

The third vehicle is a milk lorry with platform body and removable stanchions and chains.

All the vehicles have dynamo lighting and dual-type rear axles.

The Harvester Speed Truck. The vehicles shown on the stand occupied by the International Harvester Co. of Great Britain, Ltd. (No. 206), comprise a 2-ton tipping wagon, a Harvester service. " Speed" truck, and a 16seater all-weather bus on a " Speed" truck chassis. The last-named is a particularly nice-looking vehicle, and a departure is made from the ordinary International design in that the radiator is at the front, following usual practice, instead of being positioned in front of the dash. The elegant appearance of the body can be seen from a photograph which we reproduce. Steering is at the right with the change-speed -and hand brake levers centrally positioned. The gearing provides three forward speeds and a

reverse. Both the 2-tonner and the Speed chassis are • provided with dual rear axles,

with a separate load-carrying -member, and final drive is by internalteethed •rings bolted to the rear wheels. The Speed' model has pneumatic tyre equipment. • A Slough Six-wheeler. Three vehicles are also shown by Slough Lorries and Components, Ltd., on Stand No. 260. • The largest of these is a .Peerless-Carrimore six-wheeled . tractor lorry unit, which can carry a total load of from 7 tons. to 8 tons. This • is a' very. interesting type' of machine, with -a two-wheeled trailer portion, the front .end of which is carried by.a stout tUrntable on theshortened Peerless chassis. The betty is totally enclosed, is provided with a deep well, and has entrances at the rear and near side. The standard lorry is of the ordinary type with high-sided body. The tipping wagon has a shortened frame and handoperated twin-screw tipping gear.

Maxwell Motors, Ltd., occupy Stand No. 270, where they display a 30-cwt. Maxwell,, chassis and another similar chassis carrying a high-sided lorry body. Each chassis has a four-cylindered monobloc engine, dry disc clutch, three-speedand-reverse gearbox with 'centrally-positioned change-speed lever, two-piece car. den shaft with central support bearing and fabric disc joints, and overhead worm drive to a rear axle consisting of . a circular housing positioned vertically and with bolted-on trumpet-mouthed tubes tapering to the spring seatings.
