Apart from a new bulging bonnet it looks unchanged from the outside, but the new interior is straight from the latest Freelander. It even gets a rev counter for the first time, and air-conditioning that doesn't look like a hasty after-thought.
Under the bonnet, though, there's a specially adapted version of the latest Eurc-4 2 4litre Transit engine, and although the power output is similar to the relatively short lived TD5, theresu significant increase in torque. Combined with a new six-speed main gearbox with a much wider spread of ratios, it promises greatly improved economy and driveability. The primitive old sideways-facing seats in the rear are replaced by proper fold-down forward-facing items with integral seat belts.
