Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• This month we introduce a new-look Workshop magazine with an editorial front cover. This reflects the importance we attach to covering servicing and maintenance sector in the Nineties. Our lead story reflects how leading organisations initially view the next 10 crucial years.

How Workshop covers the industry until the year 2000 will depend at least to some extent on our readers: our aim is not only to give them what we think they need to know but also to respond to requests.

There can be little argument against the proposition that there will be great technical change. What is less sure is how the industry's structure will alter. In the short term, however, 1993 dominates.

While there will be more opportunities for British hauliers on the Continent, and very likely in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, and for British equipment manufacturers to export to the European Community. unless things change there will be even more market penetration coming our way from the Continent.

Dr Alessandro Berheris, president of the Fiat Group automotive division Magneti MareIli. looking forward to the European market as a whole says there will be a need for component manufacturers to increase their systems capability. Only the best will remain in business, he says, and they will need to work towards closer relationships with the vehicle manufacturers.
