GOVERNMENT and the transport industry need to cooperate to achieve greater efficiency in UK road transport, according to 1)avid Yeomans, managing director of the Wincanton Group.
Speaking at the Chartered Institute of Transport's Henry Spurrier Memorial Lecture in Leeds, Yeomans said that the Government can help with improvements in road infrastructure, while industry can contribute. "Improved tech nology which, in turn, will increase vehicle and operating productivity".
Distribution cost savings of up to 30 per cent — worth 00 billion over 10 years — are possible with an improvement in the country's roads, said Yeomans.
"If forecasts of between a 20 per cent and 46 per cent increase in road traffic over present day levels by the year 2,0(X) are correct, we must act now."
