Following recent motorway eident checks by DepartCut of Transport traffic aminers on the tachograph cords of the operators conrued revealed that 26 per nt of their coaches were caking motorway limits. As a result Jackson called the chairmen and managing directors of the operators to a meeting at the Traffic Area office where he made clear that the Commissioners would not tolerate this in future.
This is the first known Case of Conunissioners taking action against operators since Transport Minister Lynda Chalker announcc.'d the mandatory fitting of speed limiters to coaches.
