THE DEPARTMENT of Trade (Weights and Measures) has given approval to an automatic fuel dispensing system which accepts credit cards. This means that the Sentinel by Ambitron can be used on unattended forecourts. The systm is aimed at the commercial and fleet market, where it can relieve the truck driver of having to carry large amounts of cash with him and at the same time allow him to till up and get away quickly. Already it has been adopted by the Ultramar group, which is expanding its network of unmanned diesel stations under the Quicktill Diesel name.
Sentinel accepts magnetically encoded plastic cards, either dedicated own-brand ones or, in some cases, those issued by the main credit card companies.
