D EFERRING to the new Transport Holding Company, while presenting the annual report at the 34th annual general meeting of East Midland Motor Services Ltd. recently, Mr. R. J. Ellery, chairman of the company, said he felt sure that the great value of having senior railway officers on the board of East• Midland Motor Services would not be overlooked, when the Holding Company exercises its right to nominate one-half of the board members.

Mr. Ellery went on to say that his company had no reason to be dissatisfied with the purchase in April, 1962, of Barras Ltd., which traded as Don Motor Services.

Although the level of operating costs for East Midland Motor Services had risen by nearly £40,000 last year, no increase in fares was sought, passenger figures made better reading and, whilst the number of passengers carried on stage carriage services showed a further drop, it was not quite so marked as in the two previous years. Traffic on the company's express services, excursions and tours, and private hires, on the other hand, was heavier.

Owing to late deliveries, said Mr. Ellery, the company's intake of new, vehicles during the year was smaller than usual, .being five 54-seater single-deck omnibuses and two coaches. During 1963, the normal level of fleet replacement will be restored and 36 new vehicles will be replaced.
