The undertaking of Messrs. J. W. Bulmer and Son, the Bothwell haulage firm, who have celebrated their 40th birthday, was founded with one horse and cart by the late Mr. John W. Bulmer, whose son, Mr. Albert Bulmer, now carries on the concern with 18 lorries. Germany to Test Gas Vehicles.

With the patronage of the German Government authorities, the German Automobile and Aeronautical Society, of Berlin, is arranging to hold, during the forthcoming spring, a reliability trial of compressed-gas and producergas vehicles.

A category is also to be provided for vehicles which, in addition to using either of the above-mentioned fuels, have tyres manufactured from artificial rubber. The purpose of the trials is to demonstrate how fat the country can be made independent of imported motor fuel and rubber.

Conciliation Agreement Approved in North-West.

At a recent meeting in Manchester it was decided by the Joint Conciliation Board of the North-Western Area to give formal approval to the national agreement. Grade 2 will be applied throughout the North-Western area until July I, and the work of applying the scheme to the various districts is to be commenced immediately. BRITISH TROLLEYBUS FLEET FOR CAPE TOWN.

RansOmes, Sims and Jefferies, Ltd., Ipswich, has received an order from the Cape Electric Tramways for 50 trolleybus chassis equipped, with combined regenerative and rheostatic braking. This is said to be one of the largest single orders placed for trolleybuses and marks the first step in the change-over from tramcars in Cape Town. Thirty of the chassis will carry double-deck bodies and 20 single-deck bodies.

F.W.R.A. Annual Conference.

The annual conference of the Furniture Warehousemen and Removers' Association will be held at the Hotel Victoria, Northumberland Avenue, London, W.C.2, from May 16-17 next. The annual dinner of the Association takes place on the evening of the first day of the conference.
