Mansfield-based reefer operator HDL Distribution has ceased trading. Directors of its parent company, National Plant and Transport, were discussing options with insolvency advisers as CM went to press on Tuesday NPT commercial director Michael Treharne could not say if a receiver was to be appointed, but confirmed that up to 100 jobs are involved HDL employs about 45 drivers, says local union official, Br ian Crossland, with a mixed fleet of 80 rigids and artics. Until it was bought by National Plant and Transport in 1990 the company was known as Hillsdown Distribution. Its parent company says HDL has not been in profit for some time, according to Crossland.

Since it was bought by National Plant there have been job cuts and six depots have closed leaving only two, at Mansfield and in Scotland.
