Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Johnston Engineering has won the 1988 British Design Award for its Johnston 600 Series suction sweeper, which was launched in April last year.

Technical director Tony Ruthie says: "The 600 Series was designed specifically to reduce noise emission levels as well as operator costs. We are delighted that this sweeper has been recognised as the hest." It can be fitted to any 12.5tonne chassis: the most popular among its buyers is currently the Iveco Ford Cargo.

Design features include a centralised systems locker containing all the hydraulic, pneumatic and electronic controls for easy access; improved aerodynamics in the suction system; strengthened body construction and a unique transmission system for the suction fan.

The company is producing a variant of its skid unit which can be easily demounted from the truck chassis so that it could be interchanged with, for example, a gritter or tipper.

Last year Johnston sold over 700 suction sweepers, 63% of which went abroad.
