• Practical Used Car Rental of Birmingham, which provides used cars and light vans for rental, is planning to open new outlets all over the country.
The company was inspired by a Canadian firm called Renta Wreck, and was launched in the UK by solicitor Bolton Agnew. Its first branch opened with 20 Cortinas and five Transits in July 1984. Within six weeks the first franchise had opened in Worcester, and now there are 53.
PUCR acquires sound vehicles after they have been de preciated and are therefore cheap to buy. At present it has 400 CVs, representing 25% of its fleet. Because of the popularity of the light vans the company plans to expand the proportion of CVs to around 40%.
All PUCR vehicles are serviced every 4,800Icm: petrol and diesel models are available for hire, and the range extends up to 3.5 tonnes gross weight.
To hire a Ford Transit with a one-tonne payload costs 214.95 plus VAT per day, plus 3p/km. The hourly rate is £2 plus VAT plus 3p/km.
