DRIVERS must have soniith: ing to hide if they object to having a tachograph in their cabs, according to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.

RoSPA hit out this week over the "serious set-backs suffered by important road safety legislation recently."

It slammed the "complete turnabout" in the Minister for Transport's thinking, and accused him of backing down on the tachograph issue.

And it had some hard words too for the apathy shown by many members of Parliament. It announced that it will be lobbying MP's and mounting a public campaign.

The current issue of RoSPA's newspaper said that there is no doubt there are safety benefits to be gained from the use of tachographs.

This view was in opposition to that held by William Rodgers, Minister for Transport, who recently said that the tachograph would not substantially add in any way to road safety.
