A towbar suitable for towing vehicles up to 2+ tons without the need for a driver in the towed vehicle is now being marketed by C. H. Richardson.
Called the Solo Steer-a-matic breakdown recovery unit, it overrides the steering on the towed vehicle causing it to track behind the towing vehicle.
It can be stowed on the back of a breakdown vehicle and may be used with ether a 50mm ball or pin-type hitch.
