Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

used after July 1 1970 and all other trailers after July1 1972 must be fitted with two rear reflectors to Class Ill of the ECE regulation 3 or BS A U40 Li 11 or A U40 L111A I am having great difficulty in obtaining full details of these regulations and vehicles that are exempt.

Could you please advise me where copies of these regulations can be obtained?

A The regulations you refer to were first ^ published in 1968 as The Road Vehicles Lighting (Amendment) Regulations 1968 and later consolidated in The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1971, SI 694/1971 price 45p from HMSO.

The particular aspects which you are interested in are to be found in Part VI paragraphs 30 to 35 and in Schedule 2.

These regulations (a) permit vehicles, (including trailers) to carry obligatory reflectors marked with the specification number of the British Standard for Reflex Reflectors for Vehicles, namely, AU40: (b) require all vehicles, except trailers, registered or supplied on or after July 1 1970 to carry obligatory reflectors marked either with the BS AU40 specification or with an approval mark designated by the Motor Vehicles (Designation of Approval Marks) (No. 2) Regulations 1964 incorporating the roman numeral I; and (c) require all trailers supplied by their manufacturers on or after July 1 1970 and all other trailers as from July 1 1972 to carry obligatory reflectors marked either with the BS AU40 specification or with an approval mark designated by the Motor Vehicles (Designation of Approval Marks) (No. 2) Regulations 1964 incorporating the roman numeral Ill.
