J. Walter Womar, a director and general manager of Midland Red, the National Bus Company's largest subsidiary company, has been appointed executive director for property development with the NBC. This is a new appointment. Mr Womar joined the North Western Road Car Co Ltd in 1934; became a BET trainee in 1946, with the Maidstone Company; and held appointments with the Northern General Group until October 1951, when he became engineer of Eddison Plant Ltd. In 1958 he resumed his career in the bus industry as chief engineer of the Potteries Motor Traction Co Ltd, becoming general manager in 1962. Four years later he moved to Midland Red as deputy general manager, was appointed gm in 1967 and made a director in 1969. He is also a director of Midland Red's subsidiary companies and of Black and White Motorways Ltd.

J. H. Gilbert, a director and general manager of the East Kent Road Car Co Ltd, takes over on March 1 from Mr Womar as Midland Red general manager. J. R. Lemmer has retired from his post as group transport manager, Watney Mann Ltd. Mr Lemmer joined Watney Combe Reid and Co Ltd in 1957 from Mobil Oil Co Ltd, where he had been divisional automotive engineer since 1952, to take over the position of transport manager and engineer of the motor transport department at Mortlake. Frank Petch has been appointed fleet engineer of Joseph Fish and Sons Ltd. Mr Petch served an apprenticeship in the motor trade at Scarborough and has since been continuously engaged in the commercial vehicle repair trade, latterly being general service manager of Coventry and Jeffs Ltd, Bristol.

Keith Pybus, 33. lies been appointed marketing manager for the Dunlop UK Tyre Group; 'he was formerly manager of the company's operations in the Benelux countries and speaks French, German, Swedish and Dutch.

William R: Holland, deputy general manager of Nottingham City Transport, is to succeed William C. Wilson, as transport manager with Teesside Corporation. Mr Wilson retires in May. Mr Holland was senior traffic and commercial officer with Teesside Municipal Transport until he transferred to Nottingham 3-1 years ago.

Trevor Hargreaves, 41, chief designer of the Leeds-based Kirkstall Forge Engineering Ltd, is to head the technical facility of the Kirkstall gear division, in Burnley. Mr Hargreaves has been appointed to create designs utilizing the gear manufacturing and assembly facilities at the Rossendale Road factory.

Rear Admiral F. Dossor (Rtd), director, hovercraft for the Department of Trade and Industry from 1968 to 1971, has joined Hovertrailers International Ltd, Southampton, a member of the U BM Group of Companies. Hovertrailers International make amphibious and land air-cushion vehicles for the transporting of heavy industrial loads in difficult conditions.

William Mayes, transport manager with Darlington Corporation Transport for many years, is to retire in May.

J. A. Butler is succeeding R. Cook, who is retiring owing to ill health, as northern area manager of Pickfords Removals Ltd. Mr Butler is the national chairman of the Institute of Furniture Warehousing and Removing Industry .3 Kevin O'Doherty, 45, formerly passenger marketing manager of B & I Line's car ferry division, has been appointed the company's road transport manager responsible for the B & I fleet of vehicles in Ireland and road transport interests in Britain. Mr O'Doherty has been with B & I for 22 years. many of them in the freight section.

Bill Chambers has joined Transport International Pool Ltd as operations manager at the company's main depot at Grays, Essex. He joins TIP from Lamson Paragon Ltd, where he was transport manager. Before that he was group transport manager for John Mackintosh and Sons Ltd at Halifax.

David Wilfred Ward has joined Greyhound Bus Lines (Pty) Ltd — a United Transport Overseas Group Company operating in the Transvaal, South Africa — as company engineer. Mr Ward began his career with Nottingham City Transport and in 1964 joined Oldham Corporation Transport as assistant engineer, becoming chief engineer in 1969. With the establishment of the SELNEC PTE in 1970, Mr Ward was designated divisional engineer and later in that year became senior work study engineer.

Graham White, 33, has joined the commercial vehicle division of Mercedes-Benz (Great Britain) Ltd, as a marketing executive with particular responsibilities for dealer development matters. A former product planning manager with Chrysler UK, he was for the past 34 years marketing manager of Normand Commercial Vehicles Ltd.

The board of GKN Transmissions division announce the following appointments to directorships: Hardy Spicer Ltd — A. A. Haslimann and J. Topping; BRD Company Ltd — T. J. Phillips, S. Lane, and R. E. Slade; Salisbury Transmission Ltd — B. D. Insch and D. R. Heywood.
