• When Mr H. J. Cocker of Plympton appeared before the Western LA, Mr J. R. C. Samuel-Gibbon, on Tuesday, to show cause why his licence should not be revoked or suspended under Section 69, it was reported by a vehicle examiner for the DoE that following an inspection of Mr Cocker's vehicle at the local vehicle testing station in November 1971 an immediate GV9 was issued showing eight defects.
When informed that the vehicle was due for annual testing on February 8 the LA said he would only grant a continuance of the licence if the vehicle passed the test that . day. If it failed the licence would be revoked.
Evidence was given that on paper there was an acceptable system of maintenance in force but it was not being carried out. The need for the tightening up of the examination was emphasized upon Mr Cocker if he wished to continue to hold an operator's licence.
