Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• One-third of passengers on East Kent buses face an increase in fares on March 26 if an . application to be heard by the South Eastern Traffic Commissioners in Ramsgate on March 7 and 8 is approved.

Under the company's proposed schedule most basic adult single fares of 2p, 3p and 5p will remain the same; some 4p fares rise to 5p; and some 6p fares to 7p. Adjustments will also be made to higher fares — for example a 19p basic fare might be reduced to 17p for some journeys, remain at 19p for others, or be increased to 21p.

East Kent's fares last rose in February 1971, when a reduction of lp for journeys made between the morning and evening peaks was introduced as a concession. This reduction will remain for fares of 3p to 12p inclusive, will be increased to 2p for journeys of 13p and over, and be extended to cover journeys made after the evening peak on Mondays to Fridays.
