Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Single-deck Motorbuses.

The Metropolitan Steam Omnibus Co., Ltd., will shortly put a singledeck Darracq-Serpollet on the London streets : this vehicle will be roomy and well ventilated, whilst there will be accommodation for 20 passengers. The body is by Chris. Dodson, Ltd.

The temporary withdrawal of the Charron " Pullmans " is no surprise to us : we have frequently pointed out that too few (three) were on the road to maintain the Earl's Court-Queen's Hall service efficiently. Arrangements have been made to run a motor char-a-bancs to and from Bromley and the new roller skatingrink at Catford.

It looks as though we shall soon witness the twice-deferred introduction of penny stages on the " Twopenny " tubeā€”the Central London Railway.

Purchases for Turkey.

Some 20 single-deckers are now being "picked up " for Turkey : six were bought up to la.st Saturday. What a pity it is that new vehicles are not preferred ! A good point, however, is the selection of Polack tires.

Above 12 Miles an Hour.

Mr. Gillespie, at the West Ham Police Court, on the 25th ultimo, in dismissing a summons against a motorbus driver who was alleged to have travelled at t4m.p.h., remarked that the fault was the fault of the owning company, and not of the driver. The former had sent out " car which, contrary to the regulations said down, was capable of going at n-tore than 12 miles an hour." This is a new view, but we are happy to know that it cannot be upheld as the law stands.

Private Omnibuses.

We observe that, in the course of its well-arranged tariff for the hire of motors, Thomas Tilling, Ltd., whose chief office is at Winchester House, Peckham, S.E., includes terms for its private, single-deck, Milnes-Daimler motorbuses. These saloon omnibuses, which are indispensable for the conveyance of family, ball and other parties, with or without luggage, may be hired at charges from Jz S. upwards, according to time and distance.

Hitting the Railways.

Further to our last week's paragraph under this title, anent the Great Eastern Railway Company, our contemporary " The Financier and Bullionist," in commenting upon the L.B. and S.C. Railway report, writes : " Many new and attractive services have been introduced, and the company is gaining on its long-distance traffic what it lost in the Metropolitan area through electric tramway and motorbus competition."

Whilst most railways with London termini have lost local traffic to motorbuses, others, of which we may particularly quote the Great Western, have attracted much fresh traffic in the country areas.
