Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

By Julian Mitnes

THE BRITISH VAN Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) has published a CO2 guide to vans ahead of the date agreed by manufacturers to make their emissions figures public.

It follows on from a year-long campaign by the BVRLA to get the data published for their members, which culminated in the light CV companies agreeing to print the figures — but only in spring 2009.

Jay Parmer, BVRLA head of legal services. says: "Our members tell us that fuel consumption and emissions have rapidly emerged as two of the top criteria when operators come to choose a van.

"Although the figures will he available later on next year (to be published by the Vehicle Certification Agency). thousands of vans will be purchased before then, and our customers need to be informed."

Van-makers have spoken out against the current method used to derive CO, emissions figures, saying it is inaccurate because it doesn't take into account roof height payload and wheelbase.

But, Parmer says: "Our customers need a baseline if they're to make informed buying decisions that take the issue of the environment into consideration. Without these figures, it's difficult to know."

The guide allows users to search by manufacturer, model, engine size and vehicle weight. then compare consumption and emissions data of those selected.

Since the information was not readily available, it was Sourced from Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority.
