Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

GERMAN TRAILER-MAKER Krone has followed fellow manufacturer Schmitz by offering a trailer axle weight-control system that helps artic operators avoid drive-axle overloads on a 2+3 40-tonne combination. Like Schmitz's Load Spread Programme (see page 42), Krone's DWC, which is short for dynamic wheelbase control and automatic shunting aid, reduces the pressure in the trailer's rearmost axle airbags to take weight off the kingpin.

Also similarly to Schmitz's LSP, the Krone DWC system is intended to reduce the risk of drive-axle overloads on a 40-tonner with uneven or diminishing loads, even though the combination may still be within legal gross weight limits. By taking the pressure off the rearmost axle and transferring more load on to the other two, Krone's DWC can also help reduce tyre scrub and aid lowspeed manoeuvrability. Krone's DWC system is available on triaxle semi-trailers with ninetonne axle ratings and fitted with Wabco EBS modulators.
